We are selling this car on behalf of a customer who bought it from us as a fresh import around 3 years ago and has looked after it well since then doing hardly any miles. This Supra in detail ...

The version of the Supra we are concerned with here is the Mark IV (and, up until now) the last Supra to be built by Toyota, although it is likely that the range will be revived in the future. The model, referred to as the JZA80, was built by Toyota from 1993 2002 and featured two engines and four gearboxes. The normally aspirated 2997 cc straight 6 produces 220BHP at 5800 rpm and its twin turbocharged brother makes 280 BHP. Both turbo and normally aspirated cars are available with a beautiful, smooth 4 speed auto gearbox with manuamatic model, as well as manual a 6 speed Getrag in the turbo and a 5 speed in the normally aspirated. The turbo 6 speed commands a heavy price premium over the rest of the range. Finally for the 1998 model year a rare and sought after sequential gearbox was introduced. Two body styles of the car were built, the first an conventional coupe, and the relatively rare Aero top, which looks like the coupe until closely examined when it is apparent that the roof panel can be lifted off and hid away in the boot space giving a Targa style shell. Three basic trim levels of the car were offered, the SZ, RZ and GZ. These are as follows: SZ Normally Aspirated, 5 Speed manual or auto, cloth, standard sound system, (optional LSD) RZTwin Turbo, 6 Speed manual or auto, cloth, standard sound system (Torsen LSD on 6 speed,(optional LSD on auto), traction control, active front spoiler. GZTwin Turbo, 4 Speed Auto, Leather, (Usually)-up rated sound system, cruise control, driver air bag, Toyota side skirts, Torsen LSD, traction control, active front spoiler. The Supra's twin turbos differ from most twin turbo set ups as they operated in sequential mode instead of the more common parallel mode. This features a pair of small, equally sized turbos. At first, all of the exhaust gas is routed to the first turbine for reduced lag. This results in boost and enhanced torque as early as 1800 rpm. Approaching 4000 rpm, the exhaust is routed to the second turbine for a "pre-boost" mode, although none of the compressor output is used by the engine at this point. Approaching 4500 rpm, the second turbo's output is used to augment the first turbo's output. This setup differs from other twin turbo designs which run both turbos in parallel. The sequential mode provides greater low RPM response and increased high RPM boost. Front rear weight bias is around 52% front 48% rear which is near ideal and with a low drag co-efficient of 0.32 and relatively low weight due to extensive use of aluminum the Supra Turbo can reach in excess of 170MPH! 0-60 time is less than 5 seconds. Even the non turbo can top 150 MPH and has a 0-60 of around 6.6 seconds and therefore is a seriously quick car in its own right. The brakes on the Supra are well up to the job with the lighter non turbo getting 2 piston vented discs and the turbo larger 4 piston vented items. The highly sophisticated 4 channel 4 sensor ABS system with yaw control is a Formula One inspired system that controls each individual wheel relevant to speed, angle and pitch and in a test carried out in 1997 by Road and track magazine allowed the Supra turbo to record the best braking performance of any production car. A fantastic car to drive, ultra reliable and as good looking today as when introduced in 1993!
