The 11th generation (V35) Nissan Skyline, introduced in June 2001, was based on Nissan's FM platform ( front-midship) shared with the 350Z which has a near perfect 52%48% weight distribution.. In a press release pre-launch the company described the new car like this; The V35 Sport Coupe has a racing-inspired, driver-oriented, rear-wheel drive platform and a powerful 280 horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 power plant. With its advanced design and advanced technology, the G35 Sport Coupe turns up the performance and drapes it under a sensuous, eye-catching two-door body. The G35 Sport Coupe is offered with a choice of 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode or a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission. Nissans Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) is standard on both. Both visually and when driving there is no doubt that the V35 is a total departure from the R32, 33 and 34 series of Skylines. The model is not offered with a turbocharged engine or 4 wheel drive and is more akin to a big Mercedes Sports Coupe or M series BMW to drive, but with stunning looks that do not resemble any other car, except perhaps the 350Z that the V35 shares its platform with. Unlike the 350Z the V35 is a 4 seat car, and while not being a full 4 seat the rear seats are perfectly adequate for children, giving it the versatility the two seater 350Z lacks.
